An autobiography and other writings by George Nelson Knapp, a farmer and geologist who was born in Wisconsin and lived and worked in New Jersey, Minnesota, Montana, and Alabama. Included is a genealogy of Knapp's mother's family, the descendants of George Henry Brereton, an Irish immigrant who settled in Dane County, Wisconsin, in 1852; genealogical information on the Bower and Knapp families; and a biography of relative Charles Walter Hart, a pioneer in the development of the internal combustion engine for farm use and of the gas tractor in Iowa and later a leader in the oil refining industry in Montana.
